Alumna Panel Moderator: Professor Emilie Aguirre '08
Professor Emilie Aguirre is a business law scholar whose research explores how companies balance social purpose and profit. In 2021, she became a faculty member at Duke Law School. She holds a JD from Harvard Law School, an LLM from the University of Cambridge, a PhD from Harvard Business School, and an AB from Princeton University. Her academic work has been published in top law reviews and peer-reviewed journals, and she has conducted extensive research on corporate purpose, health policy, and business sustainability. Before academia, she gained experience in privacy law at Microsoft and in mergers and acquisitions and antitrust law at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz. She also worked in the Dominican Republic as a Princeton in Latin America Fellow.
Alumni Panelists:
José Colon '81
José Colón is a seasoned legal professional with over 40 years of experience as a litigator. He earned his degree in Politics from Princeton University in 1981 before attending UCLA School of Law. After graduating, he clerked for the Federal District Court for the District of Puerto Rico before joining the Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office—one of the nation’s most respected indigent defense agencies. Throughout his career, José dedicated himself to providing legal representation to individuals unable to afford private counsel, ensuring their rights were protected and that they received fair treatment within the criminal justice system. He also founded and served as managing partner of Colón, Piñeiro & Quiñones, a professional law corporation serving the greater Los Angeles Latino community. Although he retired from practicing law in 2021, José continues to offer his expertise as a consultant, specializing in the defense of serious and violent felonies, including homicides.
Andrés M. López-Delgado '13
Andrés M. López-Delgado is a Senior Staff Attorney at the ACLU of Georgia, where he litigates civil rights cases on criminal justice reform, disability rights, and freedom of speech. At the ACLU of Georgia, he has helped secure access to services for Deaf and hard of hearing people on community supervision in Georgia, helped to prevent the State from shutting down community bail funds, and represented a death-row plaintiff in the only case to proceed to trial in Georgia challenging the State’s lethal injection protocols. Before joining the ACLU of Georgia, Andrés served as a judicial law clerk for Judge Thomas W. Thrash at the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. Andrés earned his JD from Yale Law School and his AB from Princeton University in Philosophy.
Virginia Chavez Romano '94
