Emelda Medrano '87 P27

Director

Originally from Indiana, Emelda has made Chicago her home for over 20 years. As a member of the Class of ’87, she majored in Politics with a certificate in Latin American Studies. At Princeton, she was active in the Chicago Caucus and the Glee Club. After graduation, she worked in Washington DC for Latino civil rights organizations before attending Michigan Law. Before beginning her legal career, Emelda was a Peace Corp volunteer in Namibia, South West Africa. She taught high school English to over 155 students a year.

Emelda has been a trial attorney for the Federal Department of Labor since 2000. In this position, she enforces Mine Health and Safety, Occupational Health and Safety, as well as other labor employment laws. She and her husband, Jose Luis, are proud parents of Tatiana (Cornell ’24) and Isabella (Princeton ’27). She is very thankful for the opportunities Princeton has offered her through the years, and she looks forward to spending more time with Chicago Princetonians who bring so much kindness to the community and know how to host a great party!
