COMMUNITY SERVICE: CHICAGO SCHOLARS - WRITING LAB - JANUARY 21, 2016

With the help of our Princeton alumni, we forged a relationship with Chicago Scholars to give Tigers the opportunity to help high school students across the city with their writing skills.  Volunteer NOW!

We ask that volunteers do their best to stay for the entire 2 hour shift, as it works best with the structure of the Writing Lab.  However, we understand this is not always possible.  Please come - help some great students and meet fellow Tiger volunteers!

Chicago Scholars is a non-profit transforming the leadership landscape of our city by resolving the fundamental barriers to success for academically driven, first generation college students from under-resourced communities.  Through college counseling, mentoring, and by providing a supportive community to Scholars, we ensure that they realize their full potential as students and leaders.

All Chicago Scholars receive extensive college counseling, which helps them successfully enroll in best match & fit colleges, and are supported through the college transition process by their mentors and staff. Some Chicago Scholars are attending or have graduated from Princeton.

86% of Chicago Scholars graduate college within 6 years. Per the University of Chicago Consortium on Chicago School Research, only 49% of their peers earn a degree within 6 years.

* Volunteers are placed with a table of students (anywhere between 4-10 students) and will run the introductions at the table and figure out where each student needs to spend their time.  Then they rotate between each student, read essays and offer feedback. Chicago Scholars provides a training video for volunteers so they know what to expect.
